Country Last

This is getting awful. John McCain has made a dramatic show of ’suspending’ his campaign, and trying to put the debate Friday night on hold. This is under the guise of his needing to go to Washington to ensure that the bailout deal passes. Sen. McCain is not on any committee that is writing this legislation nor has he had any input on it up to this point. In fact, he hadn’t even read the Treasury Dept’s proposal as of last Tuesday.

Now today, the theatrics expand exponentially. Sen. Barney Frank announces that we are basically at an agreement to the deal–Wall Street begins to rebound. Not so fast, John Boner (excuse me, Boehner) says no such deal exists, while ex-Navy pilot John McCain wings into Washington, like the calvary ready to save the Nation. He marches off to the White House for the big photo op. Hopefully they gave him a big cod-piece and a banner to stand under. Country First! No, not really. Theatrics, and trying to save a floundering campaign first, is more like it. There is some talk that he is afraid to debate Obama tomorrow, some talk that the real reason is to actually have the Vice Presidential debates cancelled. That I can believe.
